Willie Young

Willie Bell Peacock Young of Navarre, FL, passed away on January 14, 2018. Willie was born on February 27, 1919, to Ethel and Fisher Peacock in Birmingham, AL. She grew up in North Birmingham, where she attended North Birmingham Elementary and Phillips High School. She met the love of her life, Neil Brawley Young, Jr., a WWII vet, on a blind date and they were happily married for 61 years. She resided in Birmingham, AL, for 85 years before moving to Navarre, FL, in 2004.

Willie was an avid reader of romance and mysteries. She was an accomplished seamstress often repairing, upholstering, making clothes for numerous family members and friends. Willie and Neil enjoyed ballroom dancing from their early marriage and until his death in 2000. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family especially during holidays where she made sure all traditions and traditional foods were not forgotten. She was a life-long Methodist attending Mt. Vernon Methodist Church, St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Birmingham and Ft. Walton Beach First United Methodist Church in Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fisher & Ethel Peacock; husband, Neil Brawley Young, Jr.; and 2 sisters, Carrie Elizabeth Peacock and Betty Darabaris. She is survived by her three children, Jeffie Ann Hage (Brian) of Navarre, FL, Tom Young (Patty) of Murfreesboro, TN, and Sherry Bishop (Greg) of Niceville, FL; sister, Ann Peacock Burford McCaleb of Birmingham, AL; eight grandchildren, Michael, Kirsten, Casey, Scott, Sean, Steven, Stacey and Tommy; 2 step-grandchildren, David and Danny; eighteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, AL. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South, next to the funeral home, immediately after the service.
