of Bessemer, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at the age of 101. She was the oldest living charter member of Parkwood Church of God, where she had been secretary, pianist and Sunday school teacher over the years. She was a very strong Christian and prayer warrior who will be sorely missed. Mrs. Phillips made her first airplane flight at the age of 96 on a trip to Hawaii. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ernest A Armstrong and Shelley Phillips; her children, Ernest, Walter, Willis C., Sybil and Betty Sue. She is survived by a son, Jerry Armstrong (Terrie) of McCalla; a daughter, Patricia Hogue (Joe) of Bessemer; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Friday, February, 29, 2008, from 6-8 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150, Hoover. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2008, at 11 AM in the funeral home chapel, with Dr. Hassell Bullock and Rev. Walley Hefinstein officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
