William Howell "Mickey" Duke, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at the age of 86.  He wanted to share his faith that his baptism is now complete and he is raised from death from his human limitations on a pigmy planet into a different and unique presence with his eternal and infinitely present God – Romans 6: 3-4

He is survived by his most loving wife, Coleen; his son, Paul (Cathy); son-in-law, Charles Harris; step-children Tim Angle (Ron), Tambra Angle (Harvey), and Tonya Redwine (Jack); eight very neat grandchildren (three grandchildren-in-law), three great-granddaughters; his late brother’s wife, Ruth; his niece, Donna Hendrix; and two nephews, Jesse Duke and Richard Duke.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Lou and Charles C. (Pinkie) Duke, Sr.; his brother, Charlie C. Duke, Jr.; and his beloved daughter, Stacie Duke Harris.

He grew up in Eastlake, AL, and went to Barrett School, Woodlawn High, and after four years in the U.S. Navy as an aviation electrician, attended Birmingham Southern and Auburn University receiving a degree in Aeronautical Engineering.

He was also a graduate of Union Presbyterian Seminary in Virginia and Louisville Presbyterian Seminary with a doctorate in Pastoral Care and Counseling.  He spent a year in Clinical Pastoral Education at Baptist Montclair.

His ministries were in Alabama as pastor of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Presbyterian churches and Second Presbyterian Church of Birmingham.  He was director of camping and Christian Education for Mobile Presbytery and a chaplain at Baptist Montclair, Brookwood Medical Center, and Bessemer Carraway Hospital.  He was a hospice chaplain at Brookwood MC and Bessemer Carraway.  He has been a long-time friend of Oakmont Presbyterian Church.

He was a member of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors and the College of Chaplains.  He was also one of the Santa Clauses at Brookwood Mall for four years.

He especially wanted to express a deep appreciation for Coleen, his children and spouses, his grandchildren and spouses, and great-grandchildren, and the many who have impacted his life in so many good experiences over the years.

A memorial service will be held at Oakmont Chapel Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 2:00 PM with a reception at the church afterward.  Friends are welcomed to join the family in sharing memories and celebrating Mickey’s life.
