William M. Wolfe, Jr., age 71, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away May 1, 2017, at Brookwood Medical Center. Bill’s place of nativity (as he referred to his birthplace) was Savannah, Georgia. His family lived on the Isle of Hope and, as a young boy, Bill navigated the intercostal waterway in a small boat built by his father. Bill had a profound love of the water. He enjoyed fishing off-shore in his center console “The Big Happy” and relaxing on his pontoon boat around Robinson Island in Orange Beach.
Bill loved anything with a motor, including boats, cars, planes and motorcycles. He was a licensed pilot and, as a young man, enjoyed flying with his family. He loved his Harley Davidson and explored the countryside with his wife Glenda. He rode the outer banks of North Carolina in his yellow jeep. Recently he had planned to buy a car, but the only one that interested him was a yellow Porsche 911.
Bill earned his living as an electrical designer. He had a strong work ethic having begun working as a young teen helping to support his family after his father was blinded by diabetes. Bill worked for Rust Engineering, KBR, Capstone Development, and Raytheon, retiring in 2014.
Bill was a member of Hunter Street Baptist Church where he enjoyed being involved in Small Group, Sunday Worship, Wednesday Nite Live, and Senior Adult activities. Bill loved his church and his God. His family is grateful for the support from the staff and members of Hunter Street during his hospital stay.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents William M. Wolfe and Hennie Wolfe Knox. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Deaver Wolfe; his sons William M. Wolfe, III and Grant Joseph Wolfe ( Kerri); his sister Nancy Bevers (Terry); his brothers Daniel Wolfe (Linda) and Ned Wolfe (Maryann); his nieces and nephews, Michael, Katie, Scott, Beth, Sarah, Gray, and Rebecca; and his dear friends Ron and Lynda Kern.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:30 pm in the Chapel at Hunter Street Baptist Church on Friday, May 5, 2017. A Celebration of Life will follow the visitation with burial at Tabernacle Cemetery in Locust Fork, Alabama.
