William Jackson Wilkinson, age 94, of Pelham, Alabama passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022. He was born in Hahira, Georgia on July 13, 1927. He grew up and attended high school in Quitman, Georgia. Jack was drafted into the Army in 1951 and served for 2 years in Korea. Upon his return from Korea, he attended 2 years of college in Americus, Georgia and studied History.
Jack started working at Trailways Bus Company when he was 18 years old. When he came home from Korea, he returned to Trailways as a dispatcher in Albany, Georgia. As he was promoted through the company, he and his family lived in Tallahassee, Florida, Miami, Florida and Atlanta, Georgia where he was President of Continental Trailways. After he retired from Continental Trailways, he purchased Glades Motor Lines and operated it for 10 years in Fort Myers, Florida. After his 2nd retirement, he and Marceline returned to Tallahassee, Florida. In 2002, they moved to Pelham, Alabama where he resided for 20 years.
Jack and Marceline married on May 23, 1949, and were married for almost 73 years. Survivors include Marceline and their two daughters, MarcieAnn Wilkinson Rawls (Bill), Marian Wilkinson Carter (Dan) as well as four grandsons and one great-grandson: Jeremy Carter (Meredith), Ryan Carter, Michael Rawls, Dustin Rawls and Silas Carter.
He was preceded in death by his father Robert Wynn Wilkinson, his mother, Annie Bell Wilkinson, brothers Vernon Wilkinson and Kenneth Wilkinson and his sister, Ardith Wilkinson Smith.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pelham where he served in the children’s ministry for many years. He and Marceline also sponsored the children’s basketball ministry and loved their Sunday School class. He was ordained as a deacon in his church in Miami, FL where he also served as Sunday School Superintendent and the Chairman of the Deacons. He continued to serve as a deacon in many churches he attended throughout the years. He also enjoyed teaching adult Sunday School classes and especially preparing for these classes.
Jack loved taking care of his lawn, watching FSU football and he was an avid Braves baseball fan.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 20, 2022, from 1-2PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home with service to follow at 2PM in the Chapel. Dr. Davin Watkins will officiate, and the soloist is Steve Poe. Pallbearers are as follows: Bill Rawls, Dan Carter, Jeremy Carter, Meredith Carter, Ryan Carter, and Rev. Jonathan Williams.
