William Self

of Birmingham, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2009, at the age of 53. He was an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at UAB. He attended Montevallo University, Cumberland School of Law and earned a PhD from the University of Alabama. He was preceded in death by his father, William Ray Self. He is survived by his wife, Tani Avant Self; a daughter, Laura Elizabeth Self; his mother, Katharine G. Self; and a sister, Laura Self Williams, all of Birmingham. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 22, 2009, from 12-2 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150, Hoover. A graveside service will follow at 2 PM in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
