William Retherford

Mr. William Kenneth "Ken" Retherford was born July 28, 1941 in Panama City, Fla. He attended St. Andrews Grammar School, Jinks Junior High and graduated from Bay County High School. He received a B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. He worked with the "Target Larsony" program and the Panama City News Herald. Ken was part of the team awarded the Pulitzer Prize for their expose of corruption in Bay County. Ken moved to Alabama where he was a reporter and editor for the Decatur Daily News. After retirement he worked part time for Enterprise Rent-A-Car and was a freelance reporter and technical writer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orene Gainer Retherford and James C. "Jake" Retherford. He is survived by his brothers, Ron (James Ronald) and Mike (Charles Michael); a sister-in-law, Pat (Patricia Samuels) and his loving companion, Jean Smith. Graveside services will be held Thursday, Jun 6, 2013 at 11 a.m. in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
