William (Bill) Howard Moody, age 71 of Birmingham, Alabama passed away February 8, 2014 after a long battle with heart disease. Born in Covington, Tennessee, he attended Byars Hall High School and Memphis State University. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
Bill began his forty year career as a salesman with the Illinois Central Railroad and retired after twenty years with Thomas Register of American Manufacturers. He was also the owner of Alabama Promotional Products.
Mr. Moody served twenty years in the Air Force National Guard, retiring with the honorable rank of Master Sergeant. He was a member of Canterbury United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Oliver Ranier Moody. Survivors include his beloved mother, Elna Stovall Watson, of Gallaway Tennessee, his wife of 27 years Vaughn Locklin Moody, children; William Christopher Moody and Karen Moody Goss (Arthur) of Memphis, Tennessee, Mary Catherine Moody of Atlanta, Georgia, his brother Oliver Ray Moody (Kay) of Memphis, Tennessee and one precious grandson, Dylan William Goss, of Memphis, Tennessee.
A born salesman, Bill never met a stranger and took a keen interest in everyone he encountered. His positive attitude, determination and sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank all the many doctors and nurses who cared for him and a special thank you to Dr. Deepak Acharya and Dr. Hugh McElderly at The University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital. Your expertise and compassion will never be forgotten.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at Hope Presbyterian Church, Memphis, Tennessee at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial gifts be made to John Croyle’s Big Oak Ranch, Jimmie Hale Mission, or Comfort Care Hospice, Pelham, Alabama.
