Mr. William David Meeks, of Hoover, AL, passed away on May 29, 2012. Mr. Meeks was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Ogden Meeks, father, William Oscar Meeks, and grandson, Patrick Lee McWhorter. Mr. Meeks was a loyal and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife of almost sixty-six years, Jenny LoRayne Stovall Meeks, and by three daughters and sons-in-law: Pat (Bill) Dudley of Trussville, Joy (Doug) McWhorter of Hoover, and Linda (Johnny) Meadows of Livingston, AL. Also surviving him are his beloved grandchildren and their spouses: Trey Jenkins, Lori Dudley (Christopher) Theriot, Lisa Jenkins, Michael (Katie) Dudley, Rachel McWhorter, and Rebecca McWhorter. Mr. Meeks is also survived by two great grandchildren that brought him much joy: Juliette Theriot and Evans Dudley. Mr. Meeks was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He volunteered for service in WWII immediately after graduating from Phillips High School. He saw active duty in the South Pacific where his ship was attacked by Japanese suicide bombers. At the end of the war, Mr. Meeks began a 42 year career with Southern Bell Telephone Company. He worked full time while taking a full load of courses at Samford University managing to graduate with a degree in Business Administration in just 4 1/2 years. He returned to college again to pursue a MBA. His only diversion from his career was a call to duty during the Korean War. Mr. Meeks retired from the Bell System as a Staff Engineer for the Southeastern states. Mr. Meeks was a member of Hunter Street Baptist Church where he enjoyed being treasurer for his Sunday school class. He was also a Mason, a Shriner, a Telephone Pioneer, and member of the VFW. The family would like to thank the nurses at Trinity Hospital, Hanover House Health and Rehab, the entire staff of Gentiva Hospice, Hunter Street Baptist Church, and Ms. Cassandra Montgomery for their love and care of our husband/father and their support of our family. Visitation will be held at Currie-Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, AL, from 1-2 PM on Thursday, May 31, 2012, followed by the funeral. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. Services will be conducted by Pastor Chris Sullivan of Hunter Street Baptist Church.
