William Robert "Bob" Mann, age 72, passed from this life on March 6, 2023.
Bob was born February 23, 1951, in Mobile, Alabama. He graduated from Davidson High School in 1969. He attended Pensacola Junior College and later the University of South Alabama, where he was a member of Omicron Kappa Delta and worked as a graduate assistant. He graduated from the University of South Alabama with a master's degree in education. This degree qualified Bob to pursue his lifelong dream of coaching track and field. He became Head Coach of Track and Field at Faulkner State Junior College in 1974 and continued to coach there until 1978. Bob then began his career working in the insurance industry, changing career paths to have more time with his family. He enjoyed 32 years of work with several insurance companies. In 1984, Bob and his family moved to Birmingham, Alabama where he lived for the remainder of his years.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Rufus Jackson Mann and Margaret Renn Mann; his brothers Richard Renn Mann, Philip Jackson Mann, and John David Mann; his nephew John David Mann, Jr.; his father-in-law, Robert Lincoln Hughey; his sister-in-law, Martha Mann.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Wanda Hughey Mann; his children Emily Shell (Timothy), Jack Mann (Kimberly), Michael Mann (Jennifer); his sister Jennifer Mann; his grandchildren Jeana Tuttle, Lillian Tuttle, Liam Shell, Henry Mann, Harrison Mann, Isabel Mann, Tristan Mann, John David Mann; his mother-in-law Emily Hughey; his sister-in-law Suzanne Mann; his nephew Philip Mann (Ana Maria); his nieces Margaret Mann, B.Brooke Mann, Jennifer Grissom (Leeth), Hope Mann; his great niece Cal Grissom; his brothers-in-law, Roger Hughey (Ashley), Jeff Hughey (Kim); his sister-in-law, Renee Hughey; his nephews Rhen Hughey (Molly), Ryan Hughey, Jackson Hughey, Josh Hughey; his nieces Cara Hughey, Kinsey Hughey, Shana Kay Hughey.
Bob was a faithful member of Homewood Church of Christ. Bob loved and honored God. He was very proud of his beloved family. He loved being the best husband, father, son, brother, and Big Buddy to them. He loved to run. He loved to coach. He loved to sing. Bob was a mentor to many and was always willing to give of his time to love, help or serve others.
The family of Bob Mann is very grateful to the Palliative Care and Comfort Unit at UAB, to the staff and nurses at Fair Haven Skilled Nursing Home, Home Instead Senior Care and Adoration Hospice for their loving care and diligence.
The funeral service will take place at Homewood Church of Christ on March 10, 2023 at 2pm with a graveside service to follow at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Palliative Care and Comfort Unit at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.
