age 81, of Montevallo, passed peacefully at his home on September 1, 2006, after a courageous battle with Parkinsons. The eldest child of Pearl and Bob Gober, he was preceded in death by a son Reggie. Mr. Gober was a WWII Veteran, having served in the Pacific in the Coast Guard. He retired from Barber's Ice Cream after 38 years loyal service, then served 12 years at Lake Wehapa as caretaker where he was a friend to all at the lake. Bill never met a stranger, and enjoyed everyday and was cheerful to the end. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jackie Gober; a son, David Gober of Calera; 2 daughters, Brenda Smith (Wayne) and Patricia Crowe (Russell), both of Calera; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; 4 brothers, Herbert Gober (Doris) of Birmingham; Marvin C. Gober (JoAnn) of Childersburg; J.W. Gober (Sheila) of Albuquerque, NM; and Bobby Gober (Bette) of McCalla; 3 sisters, Helen Hawk of Ocala, FL; Joyce LeCroy of Grant; and Gloria Wisdom (Billy) of Parrish; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 5, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy. 150, Hoover. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 6, 2005, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Everett Bagby officiating. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
