William Franks

or Birmingham, Alabama, was born on April 24, 1919, and passed away on June 29, 2007. He is an US Army Airforce veteran of WWII and was retired from US Steel in Fairfield after 40 years of service. Mr. Franks was a member and deacon of Green Acres Baptist Church of Birmingham. He was also a member of Pleasant Grove Masonic Lodge #909 where he was a 33 degree Mason, Scottish and York Rites, and a Shriner. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Opal Tidwell Franks. He is survived by his wife, Alice V. "Jean" Franks of Birmingham; daughters, Ramona Sewell of Panama City Beach, FL and Peggy Gregg of Rutherfordton, NC; 3 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a brother, Henry Hill Franks of Winfield; 5 step children; 15 step grandchildren; 8 step great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 1, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy. 150, Hoover. Funeral services will be Monday, July 2, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Bert Davis and Dr. D. Larry Gregg officiating. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. The family wishes to express gratitude for the support and prayers of Mr. Franks' church family, lodge members, and many friends.
