Wilda Lee Martin Ivey November 13, 1939 – October 12, 2013 Born on November 13, 1919, Mrs. Ivey, 93, was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, William P. “Bill†Ivey; parents, Myrtis and E. M. Martin; and two sisters, Winifred and I. V. Womble. She is survived by a son William M. “Bill†Ivey (Sylvia); daughters, Sandra I. McMahan (Philip) and Kay Peveto; grandchildren Tanya Burns, Tara Kennedy, Teresa Lyons, Leah Hallmon, Lanae McMahan, Laura McMahan, and Kory Pevoto. She also spent many happy hours in her later years with her great granddaughter Kaylee Hallmon. Mrs. Ivey was a 1937 graduate of Haleyville High School. She then attended West End Baptist Nursing School but was forced to drop out when she married a dashing young Merchant Marine who was the love of her life. (The school’s rules prevented married women from attending nursing school.) They married at Vulcan just prior to the beginning of America’s involvement in WWII. She spent most of her working years as a bookkeeper at the old Jefferson-Hillman Hospital and then was a bookkeeper at Phillips High School for over twenty years. She was a member of the Union Church at Chelsea Park. Visitation will be held at the church Friday, October 18, 2013, from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. The service will follow at 11:00 A. M. with burial in the National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Union Church at Chelsea Park (4321 Hwy 32, Wilsonville, AL 35186), a church that has loved and supported our Mother and Dad for many years. Directions to the church: Take Hwy 280 South to Chelsea. After you pass the tower (high hill on the right) in Chelsea, turn right at the next red light (County Road 51); the chapel is one mile on your right.
