77, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at Bill Nichols State Veterans Home in Alexander City, AL. Mr. Spell was a veteran of the US Navy having served in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. Born in Port Gibson, MS, he grew up in Georgetown, MS, graduated from Mississippi State University and was employed for 27 years by United States Steel Corp. in Birmingham, AL. He was treasurer and a deacon at Trinity Baptist Church in Ensley, AL, for many years and most recently a deacon and member of McCalla Bible Church. Mr. Spell was active in the MSU Alumni Association and was a loyal fan of their sports teams. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary "Mike" Spell, formerly Mary Smith of Birmingham, AL; a son, Wayne F. Spell III (Vickie) of Olive Branch, MS, and their children, Hunter, Caroline and Marion; a daughter, Cynthia Humbert (David) of Austin, TX, and their children, Elisabeth, Christian and Mary Camille; and his sister, Joyce Smith of Hattiesburg, MS. The family will receive friends at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy. 150, Hoover, AL, on Thursday, January 27, 2005, from 6 to 7 pm followed by a service at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Horace Doss officiating. Graveside services will be on Friday, January 28, 2004, at 2 pm at Georgetown Cemetery in Georgetown, MS. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorials be made to The Wayne Spell Missions Fund at McCalla Bible Church, 5860 Old Tuscaloosa Hwy., McCalla, AL 35111.
