Wayne Alan Rye went home to be with Jesus on December 31, 2023, at the age of 69. During his long, difficult battle with dementia, Wayne’s faith in God, the devotion of his loving wife, and the support of his beloved children gave him strength, joy, and peace.
Wayne was born in Birmingham, Alabama, to Robert and Margaret Rye on March 2, 1954. He was a brother to two sisters, Diane and Linda, and two brothers, Frank and Bobby. He attended Jones Valley High School, and it was during that time that Wayne met the love of his life, Jan, while on a beach trip. They married October 20,1978, and welcomed a son, Chase, in 1983, and a daughter, Heather in 1985.
Wayne worked diligently as a delivery driver for UPS for 32 years. In his free time he enjoyed taking trips to the beach and the mountains with his family, fishing with his grandsons, golfing with his son and friends, and working in his yard. Wayne was a man of few words, but he had a sweet smile that could light up a room, and he was generous, considerate, and kind.
Wayne was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Pelham. He loved reading God’s Word, had a deep, abiding faith in the Lord, and lived a life of humility and integrity.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret Rye, his sister, Diane, and his brothers Frank and Bobby.
He is survived by his faithful and adoring wife, Jan; his son, Chase (Megan) his daughter, Heather (Zach); grandsons, Dalton and Beckham; sister Linda; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Wayne’s earthly body will be laid to rest at Currie-Jefferson Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Saturday, January 6, 2023, from 11:30 PM to 1:00 PM. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 1:00 PM with graveside to follow.
