Wayne G. King, of Homewood, passed away on April 18, 2018, at the age of 93. He was a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church and a founding member of Raleigh Avenue Baptist Church.He was Veteran of World War II in the US Navy, first in Alabama to volunteer for the new aircraft carrier "Lexington", served 30+ years in the US Naval Reserve flying in P2V Navy ASW aircraft and retired from Hayes aircraft. He was also a a flight crew member of the VP67, the famous Golden Hawks. He was an active participant with troop 96 BSA with his grandsons and took numerous trips with them. Wayne is preceded in death by his loving wife of 74 years, Mildred S. King; parents, Thomas and Lois King; brother, William King; and niece, Patricia King.
Wayne is survived by two sons, Wayne P. King (Jennella) and Travis L. King (Jenise); daughter, Alicia J. King; grandchildren, Brian (Sundi), Keith, Kevin, Daniel, and Todd King; great-grandchildren, Alex, Marigrace, Ava, and Maverick; nephew, Steve King (Patty) and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to graciously thank Oasis Hospice Care and Bridgett’s Helping Hands for the wonderful love, care, and devotion given to our father. We are especially grateful to caregivers Bridgett, Tina, Starsha, and Penny. The family will see friends on Saturday, April 21, 2018, from 10:00 to 11:00 at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Highway 150 in Hoover. The service will follow at 11:00 in the chapel. Burial will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
