Wayne Eugene Emanuel, born March 14, 1929 was ushered into the presence of his Lord, January 16, 2024, after a brief illness.

He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Jacqueline Thompson; two sons and two daughters: Barton Emanuel (Nancy) of Manassas, Virginia; David Emanuel (Shannon) of Knoxville, Tennessee; Grace Ritter (George) and Barbara Poe (Steven) both of Birmingham, Alabama; six grandchildren: Marissa Emanuel, Thomas Emanuel, Andrew Emanuel, Jessica Bartlett, Ashlyn Poe Whiltey, and Lauren Poe; one great grandchild: Aiden Whitley; and two sisters: Pauline Matthews and Geraldine Mangrum. He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary Lou Massengill Emanuel; his wife of 1 year, Geneva Crocker; his grandson, Joshua Poe; and his brother, Beverly "Bill" Emanuel.

Wayne was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Paul Abner Emanuel and Nettie Ellen Stout Emanuel. At the age of ten years, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years, most of that time in Japan. There, he met the love of his life, Mary Lou Massengill, who was already serving as a medical missionary.

He served as a missionary to Japan for 35 years with the International Mission Board. He felt led to share the message of salvation and eternal life with many so that they too might believe and be saved by his savior and Lord that he trusted and served since childhood. After retirement he continued his life of service as a part-time Chaplain and as a Sunday School teacher.

Wayne was also an avid golfer and a prolific painter and amateur artist.

A memorial service will be held at Lakeside Baptist Church on Friday, January 26 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the International Mission Board 3806 Monument Ave. Richmond, VA 23230 or by visiting the website: www.imb.org.
