Bryan, Wayne Delmar, age 88, of Birmingham, AL, died Sunday, February 7, 2010. Dr. Bryan was born June 5, 1921, in Clayhatchee, AL, to Errol and Mamie Bryan. He graduated salutatorian of his 1938 class at Coffee Co. High School although most of his growing up years were in Dothan, AL. Following high school he attended and graduated from Bob Jones College. After college he earned his ThD from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Bryan began the Cloverdale Baptist Church in Dothan and served as its first pastor. During these years he also taught at Baptist Bible Institute (now Florida Baptist College) in Graceville, FL. He pastored three Baptist Churches in Louisiana – Ethel, Port Sulfur, and Trinity in Baton Rouge. After these pastorates he served as a chaplain for 23 years at the Earl K. Long Medical Center in Baton Rouge. Upon retirement he and his wife moved to Birmingham, AL, where they continued to seek opportunities to minister mainly in retirement communities. Dr. Bryan is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dr. Betty Sue Bryan, a sister, Lillian McDonald of Talladega, brothers, Sigurd (Sara) Bryan of Birmingham, and Johnny (Bonnie) Bryan of Dothan. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. The service will be held Thursday, February 11, 2010, in Clayhatchee, AL, at the Providence Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the service at 2:00 PM with burial following in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Reese Pouncey Memorial Library at Providence Baptist Church. Leading the service will be Sigurd Bryan and long time friend, Alvin Hall of Ethel, LA. Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home of Birmingham directing.
