Walton Hamner Of McCalla, AL, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at the age of 89. Born in Arley, AL in 1932, Walton married Iris Underwood Hamner in 1952 and enjoyed more than 62 years of marriage until her death in 2014. Walton retired after 35 years of service with US Steel Corp in Fairfield, AL and was an active member of Reno Baptist Church in McCalla, AL. An avid University of Alabama football fan, Walton was preceded in death by his parents Roy Talmadge and Lessie Maude Hamner, his brothers Ralph and Galze Hamner, his sisters Gwenda, Latha and Latane. He is survived by three children, Dana Hamner (Georgia), BJ Hamner (Mara) and Mitzi Guess (David), sisters Connie, Charlotte, and Patsy, four grandchildren, Ladd Hamner (Melissa), Chace Hamner (Kori), Trent Hamner and Mary Claire Hamner, and four great grandchildren, Jacob, Benjamin, Stella and Norah. The Family also sincerely appreciates the staff of Aspire Physical Recovery Center in Hoover for their special care. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 1, 2022, from 1-2pm at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held that afternoon at 2pm at the funeral home with Reverend Roasco Kornegy officiating. Interment will be in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
