Walter Tyner

Mr. Walter Gene Tyner, age 83, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012. He was a long time Christian, a lover of Christ, family, and church. He was a member of Cahaba Heights Masonic Lodge #887 for 50 years, where he served as Master and Secretary. He was a longtime member of Philadelphia Baptist Church where he served as deacon and Brotherhood president. He was most recently a member of North Shelby Baptist Church. He was Administrator of Jefferson Tuberculosis Sanatorium. He retired from Carraway Hospital after 30 years of service in administration. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Scott and Bertie Tyner, and three brothers; Rob Tyner, Dale Tyner and Tom Tyner. He is survived by his wife, Janett Hurley Tyner, a son Russ Tyner (Kathy), two daughters; Alisa Helms (Dick), and Jayna Welch, three brothers; David Tyner (Martha Jane), Willard Tyner (Joan), and Joe Tyner (Judy), a sister, Loretta Kelley (Dalton), a sister-in-law, Nell Tyner, nine grandchildren; Tyner Helms, Tucker Helms, Thomas Helms, Mary Allison Tyner, Michael Tyner, Jennifer Tyner, Anna Scott Welch, Mary Evelyn Welch, and Will Welch, and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday, February 3, 2012, from 10-11 AM at North Shelby Baptist Church with the service at 11 AM. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to North Shelby Baptist Church.
