Walter Thomas

Walter Thomas, affectionately known as Walt "Moose," passed away on August 2, 2023, at the age of 88 in Hoover, Alabama. He was born on June 25, 1935, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Russell Brown Thomas and Louise Harden Thomas.

Walter is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Doris Harper Thomas, and their children Keith Thomas and Tracy Thomas Prickett (Chuck). He was also a cherished grandfather to Erika Thomas, Blaine (Maria), Jackson, and Joshua Prickett, as well as a great-granddaughter named Layla Rose Prickett. Walter was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Steven Wayne Thomas.

Walter's educational journey began at Jones Valley High School, and he later pursued higher education at the esteemed University of Alabama. He embarked on a successful career and eventually retired from Alabama Metal Industries Corp. Throughout his life, Walter's love for baseball was unwavering, and he actively participated in the National Amateur Baseball Federation (NABF).

A private service to honor Walt's life will be held at the Currie-Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Walter's memory to ProHealth Hospice, Attention Jackie Miles, 1800 Corporate Drive, Birmingham, AL 35242.

Walt Thomas will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy encompasses love, dedication, and an unwavering passion for baseball. May his soul find eternal peace.
