Walter "Lou" Howard III, of Birmingham, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at age 70. He graduated from Berry High School where he sang in the concert choir, then attended the University of Alabama. Lou was active as a Boy Scout and later as a Boy Scout leader. He was a lifelong Presbyterian, and served as a deacon at Midway Presbyterian, PCA, in Marietta, Georgia. Lou was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Wiley B. Howard; and a son, Lee Allen Howard.
Lou is survived by his wife of 48 years, Emily "Mimi" Howard; 1 son, Walter Louis Howard IV (Amy); 1 daughter, Meridith Dean (Rodney); 3 grandchildren, Michelle Hall (Tyler), Valerie Howard, and Jana Turner; 3 great-grandchildren, Shawn, Jaxson, and Elizabeth Rose; 1 sister Margaret Roy (Jim); and nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 5, 2018, from 1-2 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. The service will follow at 2 PM in the Chapel with Dr. Richard Trucks officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Lou's honor to the American Kidney Fund (www.kidneyfund.org).
