Walter Gandy

GANDY, WALTER R. of Bessemer, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2010, at the age of 86. He was a member of Canaan Baptist Church for 45 years where he served faithfully as a deacon. He retired after 42 years of service from U.S. Steel, Fairfield Works. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard Walter Gandy. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Flora L. Gandy; a son, Rick Gandy (Teresa); two daughters, Lynda Gandy Langhorne (Rolfe) and Judy Gandy Norris (Jeff); 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and a sister, Zoie G. Phillips. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Canaan Baptist Church on Morgan Road in Bessemer. Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the church with Rev. Morgan Bailey officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Canaan Baptist Church Bridge to the Future Building Fund.
