Mrs. Vera Nell Elliott Hendrix, of Pinson, formerly of Hueytown, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at the age of 84. Ms. Hendrix was a graduate of Carbon Hill High School, Howard College, and the University of Alabama. She loved teaching and was retired from Jefferson County Board of Education, having taught at Oak Grove High School, Pittman Jr. High School, and Hueytown High School. Ms. Hendrix was very active in the Church of Christ. She is preceded in death by her husband, Garland E. Hendrix; her son, Kent Wade Hendrix; her brothers, James H. Elliott and John J. Elliott; and her sister, Frances Eason Williams. She is survived by her son, Ben Hendrix (Lydia); 2 granddaughters, Laura Raye Hendrix May (Jacob) and Leslie Anne Hendrix; 2 brothers, Fred C. Elliott (Romaine) and Louis D. Elliott (Carolyn); and her sister, Lois Duncan Lyon (Mack). The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM, Saturday, August 10, 2013, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150 in Hoover. Funeral service will follow at 3 PM in the funeral home chapel, Tim Shoemaker officiating. Interment will be in Midway Cemetery in Adamsville. The family would like to thank the staff of Mt. Royal Towers for their very caring and professional service.
