of Bessemer, passed away Monday, February 5, 2007, at the age of 87. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, where he served as a sergeant in the Pacific Theatre in New Guinea and the Philippines. After training at Fort Sill Oklahoma and Camp Bowie Texas, he served in the 167th Infantry 31st Dixie Rainbow Division in Mindanao and New Guinea Philippines. Troy earned the Bronze Star Medal for bravery, the American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, World War II Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, The Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the World War II Honorable Service Lapel Button. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Ada Squires Walls; a son, Joseph Patrick Liston; and a brother, Roy Walls. He is survived by five daughters, Lucy Liston Shipman (Leland) of Hueytown, Jackie Liston Wallace (John) of St. Petersburg, FL; Penny Liston Williamson (David) of Hoover, Vann Walls of Bessemer, and Sherlyn Walls Hand (Chuck) of Bessemer; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; a sister, Marie Walls Burleson of Pinson. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 6, 2007, from 5-7 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at 11:00 AM in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South, with Rev. Reid Crotty officiating. Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home directing.
