Trieu Van Le of Hoover, Alabama died Friday, July 26, 2019. Born in Tan An, Vietnam, in October 1941, Trieu served during the Vietnam War as an Army Medic. Wounded in battle, he was honorably discharged and continued his service as a translator for the U.S. Department of State at the embassy in Saigon for the duration of the war. Shortly prior to the fall of Saigon and the U.S. withdrawal from Vietnam, Trieu, along with his pregnant wife and infant son, were evacuated from the country and immigrated to the United States to start a new life in April 1975. Settling in Lexington, Kentucky, Trieu devoted all of his energy to providing a safe and loving environment for his family in their new homeland. Overcoming difficult adversity and challenges, Trieu made a significant impact on the lives of his two sons by teaching them the importance of perseverance in the face of setback, steadfastness when confronted with hate, and compassion in the presence of grief. His lessons on integrity, sincerity, and kindness were taught by example and a demonstration that a person can be both respected and loved at the same time. Trieu lived his life fearlessly and revealed to others that life is best lived filled with love and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hanh, whom he cherished with all his heart and was widely agreed to be the kindest soul a husband could ever hold dear.
Trieu is survived by his two sons, Nhu (45), a stubborn child who frequently caused him heartburn and Minh (43), an annoyingly perfect son. He is also survived by three grandchildren by way of Nhu, Xavier (13), Anna-Sophia (11), and Alexander (10). Trieu’s greatest fear was to die alone. And it was with great love by the dozens of family and friends that stayed with him during his last week of life, he never felt that fear. May his spirit be reunited with his wife who has waited patiently for him on the other side.
