Tommie T. Johnson age 94 of Birmingham, Alabama passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, February 22, 2020. Tommie was born on June 28, 1925. She attended Ensley High School and worked at US Steel, various insurance jobs, and as dental hygienist. She was a member of Hoover First United Methodist Church.
Tommie loved working in her yard tending her vegetable plants. She helped manage "Taffy Southern Charm" her daughter's shabby sheik shop in Helena. She enjoyed working at the Hoover polls and keeping an eye on Hoover politics. Her gambling trips were very special times for her. She would entertain everyone on the bus.
She was preceded in death by her husband James L. Johnson, her father Olie B. Tillery, her brothers Pat Tillery, Olie B. Tillery Jr., and grandson Shane Ray Jones.
She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Taffy Szczuka (Dave) of Hoover, Alabama, grandchildren Chance Jones (Debra) of Nashville Tennessee, Lance Jones (Kim) of Dothan, Alabama, and her beloved great-grandchildren Stella Jones, Isaac Jones, step-grandchildren Sharon Smith and Ginger Tharpe (Dirk), her step-great-grandchildren Cameron Tharpe and Luke Tharp, sister Betty Pulliam, nephews Charles Pullin, David Pullin, and Tim Pullin.
Visitation will be at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover on Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 10:00am to 11:00am followed by the funeral service at 11:00am. Interment will immediately follow at Caffee Cemetery in Woodstock.
