Thomas Clinton Shepherd, 92, died peacefully on Thursday, October 4, 2018. He was born in Macon, Mississippi, to the late Rufus and Martha Lockler Shepherd. Thomas served our country in the Navy during World War II as a Gunner’s mate in the Pacific-Aboard USS Presley, Destroyer Escort No.371. His ordinance division was responsible for ammunition and safe storage at all times. He graduated from Mississippi State University in Mechanical Engineering. He is retired from Lockheed Martin and Southern Company Services. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Georgia Inez Turnage, who died in 1997, she was the mother of their seven children; second wife, Mary Ann McDowell who he married in 1999 and she died in 2000; and his grandson, Chris Shepherd who died in 2015.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Ruth Shepherd; seven children, Andy Shepherd, Ronnie (Carol) Shepherd, Gayle (Billy) Moore, Clint Shepherd, Lynn Shepherd, Jan (Brian) Donahue, and James Shepherd; 8 grandchildren, Stephen Collins, Leanne Shepherd, Matt (Natalie) Shepherd, Nathan Gilliland, Jacob Shepherd, Austin Vass, Kaitlin Shepherd, and Michael Tinory; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Warren (Jackie) Shepherd; and sister, Helen McKinney.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 8, 2018, from 10-11 AM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. The service will follow in the chapel at 11 AM with Dr. David Shepherd and Pastor Jonathan Payne officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South, on Highway 150 in Hoover, AL.
