Thomas Lamar Shelton

Thomas Lamar Shelton (Tommy), 81, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed peacefully on October 18th with his loving wife of 58 years, Linda Shelton, by his side. He was born in 1942 in Birmingham, Alabama.

Given the nickname during his softball playing days, “Fossil” was what he was affectionally known by all.  Fossil loved all sports and became a fixture at sporting venues around the Birmingham area as he loved watching his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews play sports.

Fossil loved following all Auburn University sports and the Chicago Cubs.  If he saw anyone in public wearing Auburn or Cubs gear, he was definitely going to speak to them!

Fossil is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Josephine Shelton and his grandson, T. J. McCarver. 

In addition to Linda, Fossil was also loved and will be missed by his children, D.W. Shelton (Julie) of McCalla, AL, Tami McCarver (Todd) of Alabaster, AL, his grandchildren, Madelyn DeFore (Brannon) of Marietta, GA, Ryan Shelton (Olivia) of Charleston, SC, Taylin McCarver (Ridge Berry) of Wilsonville, AL, and Katie Manuel (Brian) of Alabaster, AL, and his great grandchildren Cason and Caleb Manuel, and Rowan Berry. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Chosen (TheChosen.TV) or a local charity of choice. A celebration of his life will be held in the Chapel at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover, AL.  The visitation will be Monday, October 23^rd, 5:00 – 7:00 pm.  The funeral will be Tuesday, October 24^th at 1:00 pm.
