age 15, of Hoover, passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2010, after a tragic accident. He was a 9th grade student at John Carroll Catholic High School, where he played football and was on the Track Team. A member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Thomas loved life, had a kind spirit, a great sense of humor and unbelievable determination. He was also an avid Mississippi State and UAB fan. He is survived by his parents, Frank and Natalie Messina of Hoover; two brothers, Taylor and T.J. Messina, both of Hoover; his grandparents, Raymond and Cindy Goldman of Birmingham and Rosalie and Leon Messina of McCalla; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the church with Father John Fallon, Father Henry McDaid, Father John McDonald and Father Rick Chenault officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Thomas Scott Messina Memorial Scholarship Fund at John Carroll Catholic High School, 300 Lakeshore Pky., Birmingham, AL 35209.
