formerly of Winston County, Mississippi and Columbus, Mississippi, but currently of Hoover, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2008, at the age of 94 after a three week hospitalization for infection and pneumonia. He was a member of the Pine Grove Church of God of Dixon, Mississippi. Tom had been an electirician since the early 30's working in construction and industry until his retirement in 1976. He was classified as an "essential worker" during WWII while working at a shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi. He was a member of local 480 of Jackson, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Huel and Lillie Belle Jernigan Kemp; two wives, Pearle Chamblee Kemp and Willie Deweese Benson Kemp; granddaughter, Katherine Wood; and five brothers and sisters. He is survived by his daughters, Olivia Wood (Lee), and Vickie Corley (Don); one sister, Mary Alice "Mamie" Williams of Lousville, Mississippi; a granddaughter, Sarah Wood Germanson (Matthew); grandsons, Jonathan and Christopher Corley; and a great-grandson, Sameul T. Germanson. The family will receive friends from 11:00 - Noon, Thursday, September 25, 2008, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home on Hwy 150 in Hoover. Funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 12:00, Rev. Russell Rodriguez and Rev. Ed Shields, a cousin, officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South, beside his first wife.
