Thomas Johnston

Thomas James Johnston, 94, beloved Husband, Father, Father-in-law, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather, passed away on September 27, 2024. He was born on June 1, 1930, in Michigan City, IN. He is survived by his wife and college sweetheart of 69 years, Patricia Johnston; son Kenneth Johnston, daughter Meg (Johnston) McCarthy, son-in-law Kevin McCarthy, daughters in-law Maura Johnston, Lori Johnston, and Linda Johnston; grandsons Patrick McCarthy and Sean McCarthy; granddaughters Keegan Grace McCarthy and Leah Johnston; granddaughter-in-law Mindy McCarthy; great-granddaughters Alanna McCarthy and McKenna McCarthy. He is preceded in death by sons Michael Johnston and Mark Johnston.

Thomas received his Law degree from the University of Chicago, served in the United States Navy from 1956 - 1961 and worked with IBM for more than 30 years. His favorite position was with the World Trade Group of IBM which gave him the opportunity to travel the globe.

Thomas and Patricia enjoyed retirement in Sanford, NC for 25 years before moving to Hoover, AL. You would often find him playing cards and games, watching the Chicago Cubs and Bears, and, of course, vacationing on the beach! He will always be remembered for his incredible devotion to Patricia and his love of family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 12 at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, AL. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm, with a service following at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers please send donations in his name to St. Peters Catholic Church in Hoover, AL. You can give online here.
