Mr. Thomas "TW" Whitten Collier, Jr., 87, of Hoover, AL, went to be with his Lord on January 22, 2012. Mr. Collier was born in Oxford, AL. Mr. Collier was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II. He fought in France, Holland, Belgium, and Germany. He received the Purple Heart and earned the Bronze Star. He also received The Combat Infantryman Badge and other honors. Mr. Collier graduated from the University of Alabama and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He retired with 28 years of service with the Liberty National Life Insurance Company. He was an active member of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Shalom Sunday School Class. He was a member and past President of the Shades Valley Optimist Club. He was an avid bridge player and artist. Mr. Collier was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Whitten, Sr. and Evelyn Collier, and by his wife of 58 years, Norma Corley Collier. He leaves behind a brother, Bill Collier (Selma) of Marietta, GA; two daughters: Corlis Collier White (Dan), and Janice Collier, both of Hoover; and two grandchildren: Ashley White Foreman (Andrew) and Bradley White (Ashley). He leaves behind 2 nieces and a nephew. Visitation will be at Vestavia Hills Baptist Church, 2600 Vestavia Dr., Vestavia Hills, AL 35216, on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, from 1-2 PM, with service to follow immediately at 2 PM, Dr. Gary Furr officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South, 2701 John Hawkins Parkway (Hwy. 150), Hoover. The family suggests that memorials be made to Vestavia Hills Baptist Church, or to Alzheimer's of Central Alabama, P.O. Box 2273, Birmingham, AL 35201
