Teresa Beverly Buckner, 67, of Clay, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord June 1, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. after an incredible and brave 10-year fight with breast cancer.
She was born July 19, 1956, in Hueytown to J. B. and Jo Ann Beverly. Teresa attended Hueytown Elementary and graduated from Hueytown High School in 1974 and UAB College of Nursing on March 23, 1986. She married fellow Hueytown native Billy Buckner on August 23, 1991.
Teresa worked as a Registered Nurse for 30 years which included eight years as an MICU nurse at Princeton Baptist and 22 years in various positions at UAB. In her spare time, she enjoyed hiking, road trips, fishing, antiques, old cars, gardening, scuba diving, water skiing, and spending time with family and friends including her cherished pets. And, of course, she was an avid and accomplished photographer.
She is preceded in death by her father, J.B. Beverly, paternal grandparents Lester Beverly and Virgie Adeline Austin and her maternal grandparents Myrtle Vance Helms and Harold Vance and several wonderful pets including her beloved dog Sugar Bear.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years Dr. Billy Buckner of Clay, her mother Jo Ann Beverly of Hueytown, sister Denise Knight of Lewisburg, TN, niece Nicole (Jacob) Gardner of Alabaster, nephew Brent (Tracie) Buckner of Hoover, great niece Kinley Stephens of Alabaster, great nephew Grayson Stephens of Alabaster, and a host of extended family.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 5 from 5 - 8 p.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 6 at 2 p.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home followed by burial at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Hoover. Childhood friend Richard Farrar will officiate.
Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. An online guestbook may be signed here.
At this time of mourning, and after all she has been through, if your heart so moves you, flowers would be appreciated. Teresa loved flowers. If you would rather, donations can be made to UAB breast cancer research in her name.
