Sybil Matthews

Mrs. Sybil B. Matthews, of Birmingham, AL, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at the age of 77. She worked several years at South Central Bell and Baptist Medical Center Montclair as a communications specialist. She was a member of The Church at Brook Hills and was active in numerous church activities such as Meals On Wheels. She assisted in humanitarian efforts in helping the aged and poor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Hester Bradley, three brothers, Allen Bradley, Alvin Bradley, and Irvin Bradley, and three sisters, Bonnie Brock, Ruth Watley, and Lorene Bradley.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Joe J. Matthews, son, Keith Nelson, daughter, Charlynn Harvey, two sisters, Elizabeth Gray and Betty Skelton and three grandsons, Caleb, Graham and Taylor Harvey.
The family will receive friends Friday, September 26, 2014, from 12-1 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home with a funeral service in the chapel at 1 PM. Graveside services will follow at 2:45 PM at Alabama National Cemetery.
