Sue Williamson, 77, of Hoover Alabama passed away on July 28, 2024.

Sue was born at Providence Hospital, Mobile, Alabama on August 28, 1946.

She grew up in Bankson, Alabama attending Bankson Elementary and Junior High and Berry High School, Berry, Alabama. She was a varsity cheerleader, selected as Miss Berry 1963, and graduated as Salutatorian of the Class of 1964.

Sue was a gifted pianist and played for the Bankston Baptist Church where she was a member. She played for gospel singings and recitals throughout West Alabama and taught piano and guitar to many students in Fayette and surrounding counties with Iva Gardner and the Music Corner.

Sue attended the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama in Birmingham, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology/Chemistry.

She worked in the Hematology/Oncology Research Division of VA-UAB for 20 years during a time when significant advancement in the treatment of Acute and Chronic Leukemia occurred. As a result of Sue’s success in writing and securing grants from the National Institutes of Health and other sources, leadership encouraged her to further her education in law school.

Sue attended the Birmingham School of Law while continuing to work and graduated as the Salutatorian of the 1986 class. After honing her legal skills while practicing with major law firms in Birmingham for over 10 years, Sue was a founding partner in the law firm best known as Klasing & Williamson where she practiced for over 20 years. Her clients, the courts where she practiced, and counsel throughout the state recognized her legal expertise, particularly in the area of investigation of possible arson claims. Sue practiced in all federal and state courts and conducted many jury trials to verdicts.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Aster L and Sara Hamilton Williamson of Birmingham, Alabama; her grandparents, Joe L Williamson and Elizabeth Fulmer Williamson of Bankston, Alabama; and William Angelo Hamilton and Thelma Mozell Hamilton of Atlanta, Georgia; her mother-in-law Dorthea Cooke of Tellico Plains, Tennessee and her sister-in-law, Lyn Smith of Springfield, Illinois.

Sue is survived by her husband, Bob Cooke of Hoover, Alabama; her step- son, Robert Cooke, Jr (Meghan) and three grandchildren—Cailyn, Kennedy and Jackson of Navarre, Florida; her brother-in-law, Ron Smith of Springfield, Illinois; and beloved cousins in Georgia, Virginia, and Alabama.

The visitation will be Saturday, August 10 from 12-2 pm at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, Alabama. Funeral services will begin at 2 pm and burial will follow in the Abbey at Jefferson Memorial Gardens South. Dr. Lee Dymond of Hunter Street Baptist Church officiating.
