Stephen Byron Mcgriff

Mr. Stephen Byron McGriff, 62, of Helena, AL passed away on July 31, 2021. Stephen was born in Tallahassee, FL on March 5, 1959 to Patricia Ann McGriff and the late Larry Eugene McGriff. He graduated from Vestavia Hills High School and was a member of First Baptist Church of Pelham. He was a police dispatcher for the Helena Police Department for several years. Steve had a welcoming and warm spirit and a great sense of humor. He loved his family and friends, attending church, music, collecting hats, Alabama football and his beagle. He was a ray of sunshine & love that will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his father, Larry Eugene McGriff; aunt, Barbara Woods; and sister-in-law, Donna Galloway.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Jan Galloway McGriff; son, Blake McGriff; mother, Patricia Ann McGriff; sister, Sherri McGriff Hodges (William); uncle, Donald McGriff (Bonnie); aunt, Virginia Booth (Don); brother-in-law, Brian Galloway; and numerous other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2021 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, AL. The funeral service will begin at 11:00am from the funeral home chapel with Dr. Daven Watkins officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.

Pallbearers will include: Blake McGriff, Bill Hodges, Max Steele, Donald McGriff, Alex Thompson, and Brian Galloway.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation honors the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. They also honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country.
