Bret Watlington

Stephen "Bret" Watlington, passed away on July 6, 2024, in Pell City, Alabama, at the age of 52. Bret was born November 15, 1971, in Birmingham, Alabama.

He is survived by his loving wife, Aliska Ann Watlington; his sons; Cody (Madilyn) Watlington; Malachi (Anna) Jones; Andon Jones; his grandchildren, Chloe Ann (8) and Thomas Gene (4); his mother, Sharron (Odell) Wooten; his father; Perry (Glynis) Watlington; his brother, Carl (Mayra) Watlington; his sister, Amanda (Devin) Turner; nieces Leigha and Ava; nephews Logan, Gavin and Jaxon.

Bret was a man that did not let a lot of people in his inner circle, but he simply handled his business and was very committed to those closest to him. He was a full-time, single father for many years, until Aliska and two bonus sons blended the family. His work ethic spoke for itself and his meticulous attention to detail was a trait that allowed him to excel as a Master Electrician. Co-workers, friends, and family knew if he was going to do something, it was going to be done right.

He was a man of preparation and would provide a listening ear or give a peptalk in a way that would encourage you to know you could do anything you set your mind to. He dressed for the occasion and made sure his three boys did the same. Whether it was ROTC, baseball, football, a school dance and so on, the clothes, gear and accessories were all spot on. Alabama football and golf were two of his favorite things to do and watch -- he even had a different wardrobe for Alabama football home and away games and would wear the red Nike shirt, just like Tiger Woods on Sundays. His oldest son (Cody) blessed his life with two grandchildren. Hearing them call him "Papa", made his eyes light up and put a smile on his face. When people hear the name Bret Watlington, they immediately have memories to reflect on and stories to tell. He will be missed greatly but will live on in our memories forever.

Bret's life will be celebrated on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, located at 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, AL 35244. Visitation will be held from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, followed by the service from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. A reception will follow the service at the Abingdon at Lake Wilborn Clubhouse at 1251 Hall Run, Hoover, AL 35244.
