lost her battle with Cancer September 30, 2009 in Montgomery, AL. She was born on June 2, 1919 in Jefferson County, and she had been resident of Alabaster, AL since 1956. Mrs. Jones spent the last 4 months of her life in Montgomery being cared for through the Alacare Hospice Program. Prior to her residence, she lived in Pelham, AL and Tarrant City, AL and most of the Southern States where TVA Dams were constructed which her husband helped build. After the death of her husband in 1973, she worked at Elmore's in Alabaster until it closed. In the 1950's and early 60's, she volunteered at the Alabaster Library in its early stages. In the last few years, she enjoyed the large print collection to the tune of an average of 4 books a week. She took pride in her family and friends. She was a member of Alabaster Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry A. Jones; daughter, Patricia James; mother, Hattie Mae Davis, sister, Melba; and brother; Harry Davis. She is survived by her son, Raymond Jones (Barbara) of Montgomery; a granddaughter, Tammy Zempel (Tony); two grandsons, Robert James (Erinn) of Providence, UT, and William Raymond Jones (Stephanie) of Atlanta, GA; four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Tucker, Everett and Karcher; and two nephews, Bill Jones (Lorie) of Ft. Worth, TX, and Doug Jones of Helena, AL. The family will receive friends and family on Saturday, October, 3, 2009, from 2-3 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150, Hoover. A graveside service will follow at 3 PM in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South, presided over by Brother Mike Byars and Bill Tucker. Pallbearers will be members of the family and friends. Sloma was allergic to most flowers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Albert L. Scott Library, 100 9th St. NW, Alabaster, AL or to the charity of your choice.
