Sima Atkinson

Ms. Sima Denise Mahan Atkinson, age 41, of Hoover, was called home to be with her Lord on January 18, 2013 after a valiant three year battle with colon cancer. Her God-given talent of music was evident from an early age. She loved singing and playing the piano at schools, churches, and social events in her teen and adult years. She played "I'll Fly Away" with such energy and faith, and now she has soared to the Christ who loved her even more than we. She believed the promises of her Savior and now she claims them all! As a Charter Member of Grace Christian Church (DOC) in Helena and served as the pianist there from 1997 through 2011. She was a graduate of UAB, and her job for the last 10 years was working as an Accountant for BC/BS of AL. However, her pride and joy was in caring for her children, Chase and Lacey. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Vivian and Oliver Sims, and her aunt, Donna Sparks. Sima was a devoted and loving mother to her precious children, Chase and Lacey Atkinson. She is also survived by her parents, Denise (Dan) Campbell and Steve (Diana) Mahan, her paternal grandparents, Betty and Lloyd Mahan, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held at the Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover. Visitation will be on January 19th from 5:30 - 8PM and again on January 20th from 12:30 - 2PM. The funeral service will begin at 2PM with entombment to follow at the mausoleum. Ministers officiating at the funeral service are Reverend John Autry, Reverend Tommy Morgan, and Reverend Phyllis Kirk. Pallbearers are some of her co-workers from BC/BS of AL: Steve Reardon, Alexander Padi, Ryan Abernathy, James Ribe, Jim Furio, Rick Bottsford, Raysine Cobb (honorary), Jeff Hymer (honorary). We thank our family and friends for the love, kindness and support extended to us during this difficult journey.
