Shirley Peden Foster, 81, of Hoover, Alabama died on September 19th, 2023. She was born in Centerville, Tennessee on May 23, 1942 to William and Oneita Peden who preceded her in death as did her twin brother Gary Peden. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Marvin Foster, daughter, Connie Foster Goodwin (John), son, Keith Foster (Virginia), sister, Donna Peden Gilbert (Bobby), granddaughters, Stephanie Goodwin Woodall (Clay), Katie Goodwin (Austin Woodin), Morgan Foster, Madelyn Foster (Scott Elliott), and great-granddaughter, Savannah Woodall.
She was a 1960 graduate of Hickman County High School. In 1961, she married the love of her life, Marvin Porter Foster. They made their home in Nashville, Tennessee where they lived for many years. In 1977, Marvin and Shirley moved to Hoover, Alabama. Shirley took great pride in her roles as wife, mother, and homemaker. She was an active member of Saint Mark United Methodist Church for 46 years. Shirley loved her church and her church family. Shirley was an artist and a member of the Hoover Art Association for many years and won awards for her work.
Although Shirley had many passions in life, her greatest was that of a grandmother. Shirley cared full time for all of her granddaughters. It was during this time of her life that she went from being known as Shirley to being known as Bobo. She loved being a Bobo. She loved to play with her granddaughters, she loved to cook for them, sew for them, take them to and from school, and overall spend as much time with them as she could. In her last three years, Shirley became a great grandmother which also brought her so much joy.
Shirley's life's work was her family and the impact she made on them will never be forgotten. We will all hold her in our hearts until the day we are all united together again in the kingdom of Heaven.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and love to Sheila Morgan for the love and care she provided Shirley.
