Sara Southard

Sara Southard, of Hueytown, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at the age of 89. She was an active member of Vineland Park Baptist Church. Mrs. Southard graduated from St Vincent's Nursing School at Hillman Hospital, retiring from Lloyd Nolan Hospital. She was a Girl Scout leader and participated in Boy Scout activities. Bill and Sara Southard were founding members of the Hueytown Library. Anyone who ever was acquainted with her was blessed and enriched beyond measure by her loving and nurturing nature. She will be sorely missed by family and friends. Her spirit and light will live on in the lives of those who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William H. Southard.
She is survived by 6 children, Beth Southard Doetsch (Jim), Leland Southard, Bruce Southard (Carolyn), Rhonda Southard Porter (Chuck), Pat Southard (Gwen), and Bill Southard; 4 grandchildren, Jonathan (Karen), Matthew, William and Selina; a great granddaughter, Kate; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 11:30-1:00, Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150 in Hoover. Graveside service will follow at 1:00 in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South, Pastor Jim Gunn officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Vineland Park Baptist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
