Mrs. Sandra Thornton Bragan, age 74, of Birmingham, passed away on July 18, 2013. She was a graduate of the University of Alabama, where she was a dedicated fan of Alabama Football, as well as a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She started a career in Nutrition, working for the National Dairy Council. She was devoted to her faith and family, and took on teaching Religious education at St. Aloysius Catholic School and Church, where she touched many lives. She then became employed at UAB hospital, 1981, where she retired after 20 years. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, John B. Thornton and Theresa Bivona Thornton, and her loving husband of 42 years, Asher S. Bragan III. She is survived by her 4 daughters, Pari (Vic) Pocopanni, Leslie (Mark) Ingle, Teresa (Tim) Ingle and Ashley (Terrill) Brazelton; 8 grandchildren, Bragan and Loren Ingle, Blake Pocopanni, Bailey, Isabella, and Marleigh Ingle, Carter and Asher Brazelton; a brother, Dr. John B. Thornton (Jenny), a niece, Leah Thornton, nephew, Martin Thornton; and many cousins. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 21, from 4-6 pm at the Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Monday, July 22, 2013 at 11 am at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
