Samelia Fiorella Thomas, age 65, of Pelham, Alabama, died peacefully on February 16, 2018. Samelia was born November 1, 1952 in Birmingham, Alabama, the daughter of Sam and Katherine Fiorella. She attended Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church and was involved in commercial real estate. Being a mother was Samelia's true passion and delight. In addition to raising two sons, she was a mother figure to many of her children's friends and for several others who were without a Mom in their life. She made the Thomas house a truly loving home and the "gathering place" and second home to so many. She was a fantastic cook as anyone who shared her table would attest. She loved traveling and had many great adventures with her sister. She loved spending time with her granddaughter. She loved singing and music and often accidentally inserted her own better lyrics for those of the performing artist. Affectionately referred to as "Mighty Mo", cancer never took on a tougher opponent. She had a strong but loving and gentle spirit and will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Samelia was preceded in death by her loving son, Adam Thomas. Survivors include her sister Melina "Boo" Fiorella, sister-in-law Dawn Thomas, son Aaron (Lisa) Thomas; granddaughter Katherine "Katie" Thomas; and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Graveside service immediately following at Jefferson Memorial Gardens on Highway 150 in Hoover.
The family appreciates flowers or in lieu thereof, contributions to the American Cancer Society would also be appreciated.
