Sam Avery

, of Shelby, previously of Bessemer, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at the age of 85. He was a member of the VFW and a WWII veteran, serving in the Navy. Mr. Avery received two Purple Hearts during his service. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will truly be missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam W and Sarah Avery. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lois Avery; two daughters, Merita Judson (Roger) of Ann Arbor, MI and Meloneysa Hubbard (Daniel) of Vestavia, AL; two sons, Marshall Avery and Mitchell Avery (Tammy) of Bessemer, AL; six grandchildren, Wendy, Wes, Maddie, Macki, Samuel, and Sarah; two great-grandchildren, Payton and Dominick; a sister, Vadie Sundberg and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 9, 2009 from 9:30-11 AM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Highway 150, Hoover. Funeral service will follow at 11 AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South
