Sally Jean (Riley) Nelson, 89

Passed away peacefully at her home in Hoover, Alabama on April 5th, 2025 with her sons by her side. She was born on September 17th, 1935 in Henry County, Alabama. She was the youngest of 5 sisters & 1 brother. Sally attended Ramsey High School in Birmingham, Alabama and married her high school sweetheart James "Jim" Davidson Nelson on July 3rd,1954, her beloved husband of 48 years.

Through her career she worked at Alabama Gas Company, Specification Rubber Company & was the office manager at Nel-Mac Sales for many years.

She was a loving wife, a devoted mother & faithful friend. As a Mother of 2, a Grandmother of 5, a Great Grandmother of 5 & an Aunt to many nieces and nephews she was the heart of the Nelson extended family. She was a "second mother" to many of her son's friends while growing up who called her, "Momma Nel"!

A woman of strong faith, convictions and opinions. She loved to laugh and had the ability to make everyone she knew & came in contact with feel special. She was an avid fan and supporter of The University of Alabama Athletics, especially mens football and basketball as well as women's gymnastics and softball.

Her parents D.V. Riley and Theoria Roney Riley, Sisters: Mavis Taylor, Neville Shelley, Isoprene Jones, Betty Graham and Brother: Roney Riley, her husband James "Jim" Nelson & granddaughter Bailey Savannah Nelson.

Sally is survived by:

2 Sons: Mike (Tammy) Nelson and Mark (Ann) Nelson

4 Grandchildren: Samantha (Landon) Thibodeaux, Dalton (Sarah) Nelson,

Amber (Mitchel) Hembree and Adrian (Brittany) Rouse

5 Great Grandchildren: Sally Jean and Baylin Thibodeaux, John Luke Nelson,

Vivienne and Luka Rouse
