Sally Kingsley

October 19, 1944 — June 1, 2014

Mrs. Sally Yeaman Kingsley passed away quietly at her home on June 1, 2014. Sally was born along with her twin sister, Susan Yeaman McCall, on October 19, 1944 in Defuniak Springs, Florida to the late James Edward Yeaman and Mildred Reeves Yeaman. She grew up in Florala, Alabama and was a member of the First Baptist Church where she played the piano and organ. Mrs. Kingsley continued playing for churches in the Auburn area while attending Auburn University where she majored in Math Education, graduating in 1966.
She married Oliver Dowling Kingsley, Jr. of Ozark, Alabama on October 8, 1967. She was the cornerstone of her family, faithfully supporting her husband, and was indispensable to his success in the nuclear power industry. The Kingsleys began their married life in Charleston, SC where Oliver was in the United States Nuclear Navy and Sally taught high school. Sally and Oliver lived in many places during their life together, including Norfolk, VA; Waukegan, IL; Dothan, AL; Birmingham, AL; Jackson, MS; Chattanooga, TN; and Chicago, IL. When Oliver retired, they returned home to Alabama and to Blue Mountain Beach, FL where Sally enjoyed spending time with her family.
Mrs. Kingsley and her husband were founding members of Riverchase United Methodist Church. Sally’s enthusiasm and effort were important catalysts in the formation of the church. She was an active member and supporter of P.E.O. Chapter AK/AL, promoting educational opportunities for women. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends and lovingly supported her children and grandchildren by spending time with them and watching them play sports. The beautiful Kingsley Courtyard and Portico at Auburn University’s Shelby Center for Engineering Technology is named in honor of Mrs. Kingsley and her husband.
In so many ways, Sally lived and showed Christ’s love. She was devoted to her husband, her children and her grandchildren. Sally was a kind and gentle spirit, and a loyal and dependable friend. She had an abidingly cheerful and pleasant countenance, and an unwavering positive outlook on life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Survivors include her husband of almost 47 years Oliver D. Kingsley, Jr., Birmingham, AL and Blue Mountain Beach, FL; her daughter and son-in-law, Amy Kingsley Hayworth and Dr. Joel S. Hayworth, Auburn, AL; her daughter and son-in-law, Betsey Kingsley Johns and Jonathan C. Johns, Montgomery, AL; her daughter, Abby Yeaman Kingsley, Birmingham, AL; her son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin Oliver Kingsley and Brittany Lauren Kingsley, Birmingham, AL; five grandchildren, Luke K. Mrs. Kingsley’s family would like to thank the pastors of Riverchase United Methodist Church, the members of the P.E.O. Chapter AK/AL and her devoted caregiver Pollyn Maseti for her loving support. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brain Tumor Center at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486, or online at www.mdanderson.org/gifts.
