Ms. Ruth Duke Lambert, 89, of Helena, passed away on January 10, 2013. She was a graduate of Thorsby Institute in 1940, and a graduate of Birmingham School of Nursing in 1945. The Birmingham School of Nursing is now the Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing at Samford University. Mrs. Moffett was a special friend and mentor to Ruth. She worked at West End Baptist Hospital in Birmingham as a supervising nurse and the Passavant Hospital in Pittsburgh PA as a pediatric nurse. She was a gifted seamstress and often made clothing and costumes for friends and relatives as well as for church functions. She also enjoyed entertaining and cooking for friends and relatives. After retiring from nursing, Ruth continued serving as a private duty nurse for friends, colleagues and relatives. She was a member of Alabaster Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Lambert, granddaughter Taylor Lambert Meers, siblings, Mary Frances Pruett, Inez Lafans, Imogene Thaggard, Ann Bolding, Barbara Harris and Buddy Duke. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Lambert; son Wayne Lambert (Connie); grandchildren, Amanda Stavenger (Steve), Jessica Lambert Salvo (Jeff); two great grandchildren, Kiah Michelle Cox and Jack Howard Salvo; three brothers, Rev. Leslie Duke, Pat Duke and Sam Duke; one sister Lea Duke Atkins. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 2 PM at the Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Helena City Cemetery.
