Ruffus Hartley

September 12, 1930 — June 19, 2017


Ruffus "Miles" Hartley, of Chelsea, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2017, at age 86. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Miles was ranked Captain in the National Guard and served as company commander at the Graysville National Guard Armory. His professional career included engineering, drafting, teaching at Jefferson State Junior College, and he also opened Gorin's Café in Birmingham.

Miles is survived by his wife of 66 years, Hellon R. Hartley; two sons, Michael Hartley and Jeff Hartley (Lani Tyler Hartley); one daughter, Sherry Hartley; three grandchildren, Mandy Hartley, Miles Hartley, and Dylan Tyler; one brother, Melvin Hartley (Dot); and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 22, 2017, from 10-11 AM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover. The service will follow at 11 AM in the Chapel. Interment will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
