Ruby Newton

age 58, of McCalla, departed this earth for her heavenly home on Tuesday, December 11, 2007. Ruby worked as a registered nurse for Princeton Baptist Medical Center for a number of years. She was a member of Pleasant Hill UMC in McCalla. Ruby was a much-loved youth leader at Cottage Hill Baptist Church in Pleasant Grove. She and her husband loved to ride motorcycles around the United States even as far as Texas and South Dakota. She was a member of the Iron Butt Association. She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar E. Walker. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Philip Newton; 2 sons, Mark Newton (Beunka) and Daniel Newton (Helen); mother, Irene Berry; a sister, Pat Mobley (Harold); sister-in-law, Lisa Moose; brother-in-law, Mike Newton (Norma); and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 14, 2007, from 6-8 p.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Highway 150, Hoover. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, December 15, 2007, at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Alan Head officiating. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
